EMERGING INNER CITY TALENT GOES FOR WORLD CUP GLORY AT THE HOME OF CRICKET

Aug 2, 2010

Young players from the housing estates of London will compete at Lords next month to lift cricket’s Inner City World Cup.

The tournament follows the high-octane Street 20 format where each side gets just 20 balls to post a total, so drama is guaranteed.

Teams of under-18s representing Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the West Indies will do battle. Players qualify to play for one of the competing nations if they or their parents were born there.

How it Started
While taking the game to housing estates, coaches from the charity Cricket for Change noticed an abundance of natural talent keen to play competitive cricket and proud of their family heritage.

So in 2005 the Inner City World Cup cricket was born. Now with support from the MCC Indoor School the event has become a permanent fixture.

The outstanding players from the competition will go on to represent a Cricket For Change World XI in a 20/20 game against top opposition.

Event Sponsor
This is the second year the competition is being supported by Investec, an international banking group that provides financial products and services to a select client base. Investec is proud of its association with the Cricket for Change Inner City World Cup.

Notes to Editors: Press, TV & radio interviews can be arranged. Photos and video footage from the event can also be made available.
