RCP continue their winning ways

May 26, 2011

The Refugee Cricket Project notched up their second win in a row  this season with a comprehensive win against Beddington CC by 8 wickets at Plough Lane on Wednesday 25th May.

Beddington elected to bat first but with some indifferent play from both teams making the game evenly poised after 14 overs with Beddington on 100 for 6 with only Hargreave (33) really asserting himself fully.

Beddington's Alex Bassan and Sam Owen (a C4C staff member and C4C Apprentice respectivley) put the RCP to the sword with 25 not out (Bassan) and 31 not out (Owen) to set up a tricky 150 to win in 20 overs.

With Beddington CC having a few spinners, could the RCP team keep their cool?

To begin with they didn’t, as both openers went cheaply, thanks to Baker's (the RCP coach and a Beddington player) return of 2-25. This spell once again put the game on egde leaving the RCP at 28 for 2. However, no more wickets fell as two excellent innings of 58 not out and 56 not out from two of the RCP players who bludgeoned the ball to all parts including two huge sixes that cleared the railway end of the ground and the houses adjacent to the centre.

Finally an easy single secured the win for the RCP team with a massive 4 overs to spare.  Just goes to show that the RCP can chase down a target as well as setting one. Well done!

The RCP boys have had an impressive start to their 2011 campaign but they will need to up their game even more if they are to beat the MCC at the C4C Cricket Centre on Wednesday 1st June.
