"I would like to recommend ‘Cricket for Change’ to any school. Their staff are extremely professional with clear goals and highly skilled in their delivery, motivation and rapport with the pupils."
A Winning Start for the RCP
May 11, 2011
Having waited for 7 months for their next game, the Refugee Cricket Project got their season off to a fine start with a 54 run victory against Addiscombe C.C. at the Cricket for Change Cricket Centre, Plough Lane, Wallington.
With the sun shining and anticipation rising, the game was soon underway with the visiting captain asking the RCP team to bat first. After 2 quick wickets, a solid 119 3rd wicket partnership shifted the side up to 136 for 3 and with the Addiscombe attack under pressure, the boundaries began to flow and the RCP amassed an imposing total of 175 for 8 with only one Addiscombe bowler going at less than 6 an over.
Having taken two early wickets, Addiscombe relied heavily on ex-Essex 2nd XI all rounder, Barry Rhodes, to hit a quick fire 48 which included 6 consecutive boundaries. The game was evenly poised before Rhodes was run out by a wonderful piece of fielding from the boundary which raised spirits and expectations going into the last 10 overs.
With it all to do, Addiscombe had to take risks and were eventually bowled out for 121 despite the valiant efforts of Addiscombe’s, ‘Borrett’ who scored a well built 36 not out.
Many thanks must go to Addiscombe’s Roger Hurrion for his donation of playing kit as well as C4C Apprentice, Daniel Lineker, who worked hard to get a team out to play the RCP boys in an exciting introduction to the 2011 season.
