Focus on James Wischhusen

Below we read about, James Wischhusen, Cricket for Change Hit the Top Peer Leader, Coach and another Apprenticeship graduate and how he became involved with the charity and what his aspirations are for 2011:

How did you hear about Cricket For Change(C4C)?

When I was at school Cricket for Change came into my school delivering great PE lessons. And from there they offered me the chance to came along and participate in county competitions.

Why has Cricket For Change been good for you in your life?

As it gave me a pathway for when I finished school, which I am thankful for.

How did you get on the C4C Apprenticeship Scheme and what’s it all about?

At first I was doing a lot of volunteer work for Cricket for Change then they offered me the Apprenticeship. For me the Apprenticeship was all about being part of Cricket for Change while working and learning at the same time.

Where did you do on the Apprenticeship scheme and what kind of work are you doing now?

On the Apprenticeship I developed many skills as well as passing my level 2 cricket coaching. From there I was covering sessions and getting more involved.  Now I am a full time member of staff for Cricket for Change.

Ambitions for 2011?

In 2011, I would really like to see more young people attending my ‘Hit the Top’ clubs and ‘StreetChance’ clubs so more young people will have the benefits of which Cricket for Change offer. Also I really hope the Middlesex Visually Impaired cricket team carry on with their great work as they’ve made such amazing progress.

Funniest / Most memorable moment so far at Cricket for Change.

I have had many memorable moments from my time at Cricket for Change. But one of my best is a time in Jamaica where everyone was taking part in a game in the swimming pool and me and Jay was champions!

Why should people become involved in Cricket for Change and namely the Apprenticeship?

I believe that it’s a fair and wonderful opportunity for every one of all different abilities.
